More Squares

Here are the next five Blanket Statement squares.

Thanks for all of the well wishes for the new baby. We had fun at the store yesterday looking at all of the little boy clothes. I can't wait to meet this little guy!

August 26, 2004

We had our first appointment with the new doctor today, and unfortunately, when our appointment was made, we weren't scheduled a time with the ultrasound technician. Our nurse was really great about it though. She got us one of the ultrasound rooms, and the doctor performed a brief ultrasound. We were able to see the baby, and it looks very healthy. However, it had its legs crossed with the umbilical cord between them, so we don't have a clue as to the sex yet. We have an appointment Monday with the technician, and this visit should be longer since she'll be taking several measurements to verify everything is on schedule. Hopefully, this child will give us a good shot at some point while we're there.

As promised, the Brittany jumper is finished.

It actually fits Charlotte much better than expected. I made it a size up with the idea she'd mainly wear it next year, but by then, she'll probably be too tall for it.

DVC01702.JPG

Just as the picture looks in the Minnowknits, Too book, this is a short dress. If I were to make it again, I'd probably add a couple of inches to the skirt.

I am not a delicate flower.

Sorry Carol, but I really like working with the Rowan Cotton Glace. I'm using it to knit the cover design from Vintage Knits. Currently, I'm about an inch from finishing the back.

DVC01698.JPG

The main color is the Bud I picked up at the yarn swap last month. For the trim, I bought a skein in Bubbles.

DVC01700.JPG

I also have buttons for the Brittany Jumper.

DVC01701.JPG

I bought these guys last Thursday and then lost them. While looking today for something else, I found them. (It was good timing too. I'd given up on finding these and was buying replacements tomorrow.) They are now safely stuck away and waiting to be sewn on in the morning.
And, unfortunately, there are no Charlotte pictures today. Maybe there'll be one tomorrow of her modeling her new jumper.

Another Charlotte Sweater

The heart sweater has been completed.

dvc01687.jpg

The pattern, from Miss Bea's Colours, calls for 5 balls of ASC, but I only needed three to make the smallest size. We had problems with the sweater fitting over Charlotte's head, so I added 8 stitches to the neckband.

dvc01693.jpg

The Brittany jumper is still waiting on buttons, so I've started a project for me from Vintage Knits. Details and pictures will be posted tomorrow.

Botanical Gardens

We took Charotte to the Botanical Gardens on Sunday to enjoy the Waterworks exhibit. She had lots of fun riding in the wagon,

playing in the water,

and visiting the butterfly house.

Secret Pal Surprise!

A relaxation package arrived today from my secret pal.

dvc01677.jpg

Inside was a candle, soap, mineral bath, candy, and a knitted flower washcloth.
She also sent a strawberry sponge and a glittery dragonfly soap for Charlotte.

dvc01676.jpg

Charlotte has been enamoured with the soap since we opened the package. (She even brought it shopping with us.)

dvc01675.jpg

I was having a really bad week, and this package just made my day. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.

Midweek Progress Report

As far as the knitting goes, Brittany is complete.

dvc01668.jpg

My ironing board isn't wide enough for blocking the entire dress at once, so right now I'm just focusing on pulling out the lace trim around the skirt.

dvc01669.jpg

I'll block the top tomorrow.

The first sleeve of Charlotte's Heart sweater just finished blocking.

dvc01670.jpg

The front and back are also finished, but I'm having problems with the neckband coming out too small. As soon as I get that worked out, I'll work on the second sleeve and get this project finished as well.

To all her fans, Charlotte says "Baaaaaaa!"

Bath Time

One of my favorite things about our new house is the large garden tub in the master bath. Of course, Charlotte has gotten the most use out of it.

dvc01665.jpg

The large area around the tub provides easy access to Charlotte, and the high sides keep most of the water in during splash time.
While Charlotte spends her time soaking, I've been making blanket statement squares. Here's six more to be sent out at the end of this month.

We're Back Up

After almost two weeks without internet, we're finally back online. Here's my first finished project from my blog hiatus, Mike's socks.

dvc01661.jpg

I finished all but about 3 inches on the second sock during our house hunting trip, but I hadn't picked them up again until the move. Now they're ready in plenty of time for colder weather.
Since I missed the first Secret Pal information survey, I wanted to hurry and post my answers to this one.
What are your favorite yarns to knit with?
Right now I really enjoy knitting with Rowan All Seasons Cotton. Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora is another one I like.
What is your current knitting obsession?
I'm currently addicted to Rowan kid patterns, particularly the Miss Bea books.
What are your favorite items to knit?
I like knitting Charlotte clothes because they usually work up so quickly. Socks and felted bags are also fun knits.
What are you knitting right now?
Socks, a toddler dress, a Miss Bea sweater, and two tank tops.
What do you think about ponchos?
I have no problem with ponchos. At some point, I plan on making one for me. I think ponchos are a very pregnant friendly article of clothing.
Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
Circulars
How did you learn to knit?
I taught myself out of a book.
How old is your oldest UFO?
I have one that I started in January. I'm sure there are older ones, but none of them are coming to mind.

Last Virginia Post

The movers are coming to pack up our stuff tomorrow, so this is my last post before we move. We've spent the day preparing for the packers, so for the first time, it really feels like we're leaving.
All of the sorting and storing has left Charlotte exhausted.

DVC01660.JPG

I've separated which knitting projects are coming with me, and here is the status for a couple of them.

1. Brittany Jumper

DVC01658.JPG

I have 25 rows left on the skirt. After that, this project should go much faster.

2. Hearts Sweater

DVC01659.JPG

This pattern is from Miss Bea's Colours, and I'm using Rowan ASC in Silver. Only the back is finished so far.
