Knitting with a Good Movie

Here it is, the last weekend in August, and my project list for this month has not seen very good progress. I have some projects which are close to done, so I'm hoping to finish at least two more projects over the long weekend. I'm working on the second sleeve of Charlotte's sweater; once it's done, all that is left is sewing everything up and knitting the collar. Then it's buttons and a whole lot of embroidery. Samantha's poncho is also nearly complete; I was going to bring this to my crochet group to work on this Tuesday, but it doesn't look like there will be enough attendees for a meeting. With the meeting probably cancelled, I have no excuse to put this one off any longer. (Samantha, maybe you'll finally receive a poncho package next week!) It looks like it'll be yarn and video rentals for me this weekend.

Here is the completed fuzzy hat.

That's the extent of my project work so far this week.
Here's Charlotte helping to type this entry.

A Finished Quick Knit

Here is my finished scarf from the yarn I received last Monday.

The whole thing is made in garter stitch on US 35 needles. I used Filatura di Crosa/ Adhoc Piu yarn.
I've started knitting hat to go with scarf. I haven't advanced very far on the other projects. The shaping on Charlotte's sweater sleeves is giving me some trouble.
Here's a picture to brighten your Monday.

Charlotte is used to having her picture taken when the camera is out, so she insisted on being in the scarf photo shoot.

I May Not Have Another Finished Project Until Charlotte Goes To College

How do people with small children get anything done? Charlotte is in her destructo phase now. She loves anything that can be emptied the bigger the mess, the better. One of the worst things she gets into is the box of baby wipes. She pulls out big clumps of wipes, and then proceeds to separate and unfold all of them. We keep the wipes in the diaper bag (which she also likes to empty) so it's just a matter of zipping up the diaper bag with the wipes inside when we're done. Charlotte is also starting to recognize when she's doing something I don't want her to, but it just amuses her rather than stopping her. It started out with me telling her no, then, when I told her no, she'd shake her head. Now, if I find her playing with something she thinks I'll take away, she shakes her head no without me saying anything ....... and keeps on playing.
In project news, the body of the jacket is finished and I'm working on the first sleeve. I've put wood putty on most of the spots that needed it on the quilt shelf, now I just need Mike's help in attaching the rod so I can sand and paint it. I'm still trying to finish the poncho. I've started a new Homespun scarf. I also received my latest yarn order in the mail today and will begin on a project from that. It is on size 35 needles so it shouldn't take long to finish. I also may be starting a sewing project this week. I have a lot of stuff I'd like to finish this month, but since I started working, it seems that there is just not enough time. To make it look like I'm on top of things, I'll only add items to my WIP list that I'm actually working on rather than all the items I plan on working on.

A Sundress for Charlotte

It's true; the sundress is finally finished! Here's a picture of the dress.

And here is the dress on our lovely model.

As I predicted, we also saw some progress on Charlotte's jacket this weekend. The back is now finished, so I'm working on the right front.

New projects for the month of August will be coming soon.

Slugs

As some of you already know, I have a huge slug problem in my garden. On more than one occasion, I've killed over 30 slugs in one sitting. And that is with it still being light out. When I took out the trash last night, I saw some more on the sidewalk, so I came back out with a flashlight and salt to get rid of them. Now when I said that I have a huge problem, I wasn't just talking about the number of slugs invading my property but the size as well. I salted 5 slugs that were over 4 inches long and one huge one that was at least 5 inches! These big boys are gross and slimy with big spots or stripes. Yech! I put out a beer trap last night for the first time in about a month, and I actually got to see it in action last night. For those who don't know how this works, I dig a hole in my garden for a plastic cup, which I bury almost to the rim. I then fill the cup about two/thirds of the way with beer. The slugs are attracted to the beer, slide down the inside of the cup to drink and end up falling in and drowning. This trap works very well to get some of the big, monster slugs that aren't out when I'm looking for them during the day. (The huge 5-inch slug was right by the cup when I salted it. I didn't want to take any chances.) There were two 4-inch slugs leaning over the rim when I was out last night, and they both fell in. I'm amazed that the cup trap is big enough to get these guys.
Here's a picture of the trap, slugs and all.

In yarn news, the sundress needs the buttons sewn in, the poncho needs more sewing, and I'm about halfway up the back on the black jacket. I really hate sewing up projects, so come Monday, you'll probably see the most progress on the jacket.
It's the first of the month, and I haven't finished all the projects I'd hoped to for July. Oh well, the list will just shift to this month.
If you have extra time and extra wool, you can knit some mouse toys for a good cause. Check out Wendy's page for the details.
